Quite an easy afternoon for Panathinaikos as it edged Rethymno 92-50 at OAKA arena for Basket League OPAP Game 3.
It took Panathinaikos only a few minutes in order to establish a pleasing pace and mount to a safety cushion. Rethymno led first getting the first basket of the eve (0-2, 16’’). From that point forward and with only exception 5-5 at 4’ the Greens held on to the lead. They got up 14-9 (6’16’’)and led in double digits for the first time at the end of the first quarter (26-16). Second quarter on court was even better for Argyris Pedoulakis’players. They accelerated, gathered the boards, intercepted passes and managed to fly ahead with a +20 advantage (42-22) Dimitris Diamantidis to pull a trifecta (15’20’’). Double score for the clover at 17’40’’ (50-25), game going into recess score board reading 53-28. Already 11-out of-12 players at the disposal of the technical staff had been used Gaios Skordilis on the roster in Vassilis Xanthopoulos’ place (symptoms of a cold). The Greens were scoring 13-for-13 free throws, 6-for-9 threes and 11-for-18 twos, on quite an offensively pleasing day but had also accumulated 16 assists half way through the game, the Cretans only mounting to 3.
No change in second half either as far as roles and who had first say on the floor. Panathinaikos did not allow a single doubt concerning its dominance and never let Rethymno even get close in the score. The gap was expanded to +34 (68-34, 29’), the guests managed only to pick up the trail back to +28 (75-47, 34’35’’) but slightly later Charis Giannopoulos would up the ante to a 35 point price (82-47, 35’40’’), Armstrong next to +37 (84-47, 37’45’’), Skordilis then to +39 (86-47, 38’), only for the cycle to go full Giannopoulos getting a three nailed to +40 (89-49, 39’10’’). Final score of the game was provided by Derwin Kitchen 92-50.
