In just the 11th double-overtime showdown in competition history, Anadolu Efes Istanbul battled for 50 minutes to defeat Panathinaikos Superfoods Athens 91-83 at home on Friday. Efes improved to 2-3, while Panathinaikos Superfoods dropped to 3-2. Thomas Huertel led the winners with 17 points and DeShaun Thomas scored 13, while three of their teammates tallied double-doubles. Tyler Honeycutt had 15 points and 13 rebounds, Bryant Dunston got 12 and 11 and Derrick Brown posted 11 and 11. K.C. Rivers led Panathinaikos with 15 points, including a floater that forced the second overtime at 77-77. Nikos Pappas added 13, James Gist netted 12 points and 11 rebounds, Demetris Nichols had 11 points and Nick Calathes scored 10 and dished 12 assists for Panathinaikos Superfoods, which buried 7-of-12 three-point shots (58.3%) to get a 35-42 lead at the break. Things changed after the break, as Efes outrebounded its opponents 48-36 and held Panathinaikos Superfoods to just 3-of-18 three-point shooting (16.7%) after halftime.
