Panathinaikos started off on the right foot in Rethymno, at "Petros Ikonomakis" tournament, defeating Lukoil Academic Sofia 83-74.
Argyris Pedoulakis, the coach of the team, couldn't count on the injured Roko Leni Ukic (remained in Athens), Loukas Mavrokefalidis and Ramel Curry (they travelled to Rethymno, but he was not ready to play), but he had the chance to test players and plays on the way to the official premier of the season.
Greens got a lead by the end of the first quarter (22-20). In the second period things changed on the floor, Panathinaikos improved its defense and at the end of the first half the score was 41-37. The Bulgarian team tried harder, managed to get the lead (47-46, 24'). Panathinaikos got back in the game, led by 2 at the end of the third quarter (59-57) and by performing much better in the fourth quarter they got the positive result, marking the game with the final score 82-74.
