Panathinaikos will fight for the Cup of Greece, after edging Olympiacos 67-59 tonight at OAKA, for the semifinal of the competition. Greens advanced and they will face Aris at the final which will be hosted in Heraklio, Crete, on the 9th of February 2014. The two teams were a match for the Cup final back in 2005, also in Herakleio.
Panathinaikos was better during the biggest part of the game. The passion led the team throughout the game. Jonas Maciulis and Nikos Pappas, despite the fact that they only had one practice each prior to the semifinal, due to injuries, were present and set the tone for the whole team. Greens got the lead (7-8 2'40'', 20-13 9'50''), but the team from Pireas came back, using a 1-11 (21-24, 14'). The answer came from Panathinaikos (35-29 (19'15''). Olympiacos cut the lead again at the end of the first half (35-34) and the end of the third period (45-44) and regained the lead in two occasions (45-46 31', 47-48 32'). After the game was tied (50-50, 33'40''), Greens dominated the court, getting all the way to +8 (61-53, 37'15'') by Mike Bramos, while the game was sealed with the final 67-59.
