Fragkiskos Alvertis will be the new coach of Panathinaikos. Beside him in the coaching staff will be Dimitris Priftis, Sotiris Manolopoulos and Nikos Pappas.
Alvertis doesn't need really any special recommendations. He arrived in Panathinaikos when he was 16 years old (1990) and he in one of the most decorated players in Europe. He has celebrated 5 Euroleague titles, 11 Greek League titles, 8 Greek Cup titles and 1 Intercontinental Cup. In 2009 he quit the action, but he remained in Panathinaikos as a team manager. The next step is to lead the technical staff of the Greens.
Alvertis stated: "Having served Panathinaikos for about 25 years, I am in a position to know first had about the pressure and the demands this team has. I didn't arrive... yesterday in Panathinaikos. It's the team I have lived more than half of the years I am on this planet. I have full knowledge of what I am about to do. Being Panathinaikos I have more than an obligation to contribute the maximum in order for this team to achieve its goals; Goals we are "doomed" to chase. It's a big challenge for me. Me and the rest of the coaching staff will do the best in order to accomplish our mission. We are well aware that it's not going to be easy, but to fight is part of life, and we'll fight to bring out the best".
Dimitris Prifts
He was born on October 27th, 1968. He coached at the basketball academies in ANOG, Aris Glyfadas, GS Argyroupolis. He took ever Kronos (Women Basketball), Aigaio Glyfadas (Men), Esperides (Women Basketball, 1998-2000), leading the team to A1 Division. He was assistant coach next to Theodoris Bolatoglou (Ionikos Nikaias) and Dirk Bauermann (Dafni). He was a member of the coaching staff in AEK (2003-2009). He then moved to Thessaloniki, to Aris, next to Fotis Katsikaris and David Blatt (2009-10). From 2010 to 2012 he took over EK Kavalas leading the team to the 6th place of the A1 Division Classification, the best in the team's history. In 2012-13 he coached Ikaros Kallitheas, while this season he coached Kolossos Rhodes, before shaking hands with Panathinaikos.
Since 2008 and up to 2012, he was a member of the Greek National Team of Men coaching staff next to Panagiotis Giannakis (2008 Olympic Games, 5th place), Jonas Kazlauskas (Eurobasket 2009, Bronze Medal, 2010 FIBA World Championship), Elias Zouros (Eurobasket 2011, 6th place, 2012 Olympic Games Qualification Tournament).
Nikos Pappas
Nikos Pappas was born on June 4th, 1983 at Ioannina. He graduated from the Sports University. He grew up in Germany and he was member of the technical staff in Bayern o4 Leverkusen in summer basketball camps. Back in Greece he began coaching in basketball academies at Ymittos, AEK, Pera, Dafni and Triple Crown. He was assistant coach in Dafni (2009-10) in A2 Division. He also practiced in Sports Administration and Marketing in AEK BC.
