Condolence Announcement

Panathinaikos AKTOR expresses its profound sorrow over the passing of Takis Oikonomopoulos at the age of 81.

Takis Oikonomopoulos was not only one of the greatest goalkeepers in Greek football history (recognized as the best by the International Federation of Football History and Statistics – IFFHS), but above all, a man distinguished for his integrity, dignity, and unwavering character.

His achievements in the Panathinaikos jersey, most notably his presence in the 1971 European Cup final at Wembley, as well as his incredible feat in 1965 of keeping a clean sheet for 1,088 consecutive minutes, will forever remain etched in the memories of all sports fans.

His long-standing contribution to the Panathinaikos family will always shine brightly, serving as a beacon of dedication and selfless devotion.

The "Bird" of Greek football has soared to the heavens, where he will reunite with the "General," Mimis Domazos, in the pantheon of our Club’s legends.

We extend our sincere condolences to his family and loved ones.

May he rest in peace.
