Panathinaikos defeated Ikaros Kallitheas by 93-58 today in the OAKA indoors arena, in the context of the HEBA championship 3rd competition date.
From the very first minutes Panathinaikos showed that, despite the peculiar circumstances of an empty arena, it wanted to “finish off” the game. It imposed its own pace, proceeded to the right offensive plays, tried in defense as early on as the…jump-ball, and gradually built on a margin, that kept growing bigger and bigger. By 3’22’’ the score gap between the two teams had reached a double-digit (13-2). Two consecutive three-pointers by Ian Vougioukas stretched it to +23 points (37-14), only for David Logan to take it over from there and with a three-point shot make the score 40-16 (16’30’’, +24).
The difference between the two teams was maintained in the region of 20 points. Ikaros made the most of Panathinaikos’ temporary lapse in its rebounding, as well as some of the “Greens’” turnovers, to cut down the margin (63-50, 29’30’’), before the third period ended at 65-51. The “Greens” tried to accelerate their pace during the fourth period, and finally prevailed by 93-58.
