Panathinaikos clinched victory against Maroussi by 93-84 at the OAKA indoors arena today, in the context of the OPAP BasketLeague 9th competition date.
The first minutes into the game Panathinaikos seemed to be unable to get into pace. It led for the first time in minute 4’ with Dimitris Diamantidis scoring 5 consecutive points (11-10, 4’), reached an 8-point lead (20-12, 6’), and kept the reins of the game without however being able to build on a margin until the end of the first quarter. Returning on court for the second quarter was not exactly done the way the “Greens” were expecting. Maroussi mustered the necessary courage to make a comeback by claiming the rebounds and under the guidance of the more experienced of their players reached a 7-point lead (29-36, 13’50’’).
The “clover” made a run of its own to get to 39-36 (16’40’’), and continued increasing the score difference in the first minutes of the second half to a 16-point lead (62-46, 24’10’’). Yet, it was once again unable to keep this distance from the visiting team in an almost empty OAKA. Nikos Linardos’ players were determined, despite the absences, to fight all the way through to the end, and the third period was completed with the score at 71-66. Maroussi crunched the score even closer (71-70, 31’06’’), with Panathinaikos pressing them and stepping on the accelerator with Diamantidis and Sato returning into the game to reach the final victory by 93-84.
