By holding the reins to the game from minute one up until the end of the game, Panathinaikos got an away victory from Peristeri by 97-64 in the context of the OPAP BasketLeague 24th competition date.
Things were crystal clear from the very first minutes into the game. Peristeri, with several problems and changes in its roster compared to the first round game, was finding it hard to keep up with Panathinaikos that stepped on court with the intention of “finishing it off” real quickly. A score of 0-10 (1’45’’) became 4-25 (6’42’’), before the score difference rose to 30 points in the second quarter (13-44, 13’), and remained on those levels up until the end of the first half (28-60).
Panathinaikos reached a 35-point lead (32-67 at 23’30’’ and 34-69 at 24’30’’), but at that point Peristeri showed some signs of comeback. It tried to find uncontested long shots, Giannopoulos and Jovovic found their target, and as a result the lead dropped down to 17 points (59-76, 32’). Nonetheless, the “Greens” got back in pace and pushed back to a 30-point lead (59-89, 36’25’’) with an impressive slam-dunk by Romain Sato. Vougioukas boosted the lead further to 35 points (62-97, 38’10’’), before time came for ‘curtains down’ with the final score reading 64-97.
