Return to practice sessions and preparation for Rethymnon

Panathinaikos is returning to the OAKA after the…mini rest period that the coaching staff gave the players after Friday’s practice session was completed. The “Greens” will focus their preparation on the away game against Rethymnon (28/12, 4 p.m., ΝΕΤ).

Regarding the game, Dimitris Itoudis underlined: “We have thoroughly studied how Rethymnon plays, in the sense that they have a lot of quality and is a very athletic team; quite possibly, they are the most athletic team in the division right now. The individual capabilities of the four Americans and generally speaking the way in which Rethymnon plays in its home games are very important. If we examine it in more detail, we will see that the way they start off the game at the beginning of each quarter is very enthusiastic, particularly when they play at home. They have an enthusiasm, an athletic team that reaches high scores, and has a lot of elements that we need to watch and analyze together with the players. Before Christmas we have had two practice sessions and another three now, which is more than enough for us to prepare. We have had games that we only had a single practice to prepare for and it had been far more difficult than this.”

Panathinaikos will be in Crete, but will also be awaiting the news from Barcelona, as on Wednesday (28/12) at 2 p.m. the draw for the Euroleague Top16 phase will take place in the Spanish city. “The Euroleague draw is also taking place; this will provide us with the rest of our calendar and let us know which teams we will be facing. Whichever these teams may be, what we want is to play seriously, focus on our target during a phase in the competition where, as we have said before, mistakes are not forgiven, since there are only six games to be played.”

Panathinaikos’ delegation leaves tomorrow (Tuesday, 27/12), where it is going to return from to Athens on Wednesday evening (28/12).
