THY Euroleague announced the top players for the 2011-2012 competition season. Two Panathinaikos’ players, who had also made the list last season, were ranked amongst them: Dimitris Diamantidis and Mike Batiste.
“It is an honor for any athlete to be included in and considered to be amongst the best”, underlined Diamantidis and added: “I would like to thank very much all those who voted for me to get to this spot, but also those who have helped me all through the season, my coaches and my teammates. I will repeat once again that what is important to all of us is how the team does. This is what sticks to mind, these are the titles that make history, not the individual achievements. We will feel happy if we manage to achieve the goal that lies ahead of us in the competition.”
Mike Batiste also focused on the success of the team and not so much on his personal accolade: “I am happy, I could not feel anything other than happiness, and want to thank all those who voted for me, but also for Dimitris. However, the main thing for me is for us to be able to conquer one more Euroleague title. We have ahead of us the chance to defend our title and I believe that if we work hard and focus on the task at hand we can make it; we can have this year again another truly successful season in the competition.”
