Jonas Maciulis signed a contract with Panathinaikos and spoke of this agreement, slightly prior to the national Lithuanian team’s departure for a friendly clash versus Island, in views of the Olympic Games.
“I feel ready to be part of the great team. It is an honor for me to compete for Panathinaikos and what I would like, is for it to continue to conquer titles, as it has been doing all these years. Everyone has got used to Panathinaikos doing so and it is a certainty that we do not wish to change this fact. I know that conditions are different in comparison with other years. We could say that a fresh start is taking place and it is my pleasure to help out in this effort. I would like for this new Panathinaikos era to start out already in this very season with successes. We want to be profoundly good and effective on court from the very first season. I know the players already on the team. I have never competed with them but this does not stop me from knowing that they are truly great players. I view it as an opportunity to compete next to them and I believe that everything will turn out just fine. With the players the team already has and with those expected to come, we will manage to nail our targets. For us, but all the more for the Panathinaikos friends. They are nuts… but attractive nutters! I have played as an opponent at the OAKA arena and I believe it is much better to have them next to you, on your side instead of them versus you…”
