Panathinaikos BC announces the signing on of Haris Giannopoulos after the agreement committed between both parties for a 1+1 year contract.
Giannopoulos (July 13th, 1989, 2m) was born in Alexandria Imathia and was introduced to basketball quite early, getting to play for PAOK already in 2006. From here he moved on to Olympiacos in 2008 only to get to compete in 2009 with Panionios for two years, whilst last year he played wearing the Peristeri jersey under command of Argyris Pedoulakis, committing quite a pleasing season. He tallied 298 points (12.4 p.g.) behind 62/118 twos’, 37/126 threes and 63/72 free throws, 128 (114def – 14of) rebounds, 45 assists, 6 blocked shots in a 32 minute average game time span.
Haris Giannopoulos is quite a familiar face to all national youth teams seeing that he has competed both with the U-16 and U-18 teams, in the later also nailing silver medal in the 2007 European Championship and in the U-20 squad only to go for gold in the 2009 European Championship in Rhodes, Greece.
“I would like to thank Panathinaikos and coach Argyris Pedoulakis for this chance they are granting me. It is a great honor for me to compete for the greatest team in Europe. I understand, as do we all, that certain conditions are different. But nothing has changed as far as Panathinaikos’ identity and its obligation to be the protagonist of the show. We all, are very eager to put in the effort to become the best we can as a team, because Panathinaikos deserves only to be at the top. I am certain that everyone will strive towards achieving exactly this and that the fans will be there to back our efforts. I have competed as an opponent, I have watched games at the OAKA arena and I know that Panathinaikos’ fans always stand by this team and offer it a huge helping hand in achieving its goals”.
