Today at noon, Jonas Maciulis and Derwin Kitchen landed at the “Eleftherios Venizelos” airport. A delay of Kitchen’s flight from Rome to Athens and Maciulis’earlier than scheduled arrival, made it so that both players arrived almost at the same time.
Jonas Maciulis stressed upon his arrival: “I know what Panathinaikos stands for, what the team’s identity is and I am very pleased to be a member of it and also to be in Greece . It is a one of a kind feeling to be part of such a legendary and successful team. It has been a hectic summer for me with the national team of Lithuania competing in the Olympic Qualifying Tournament and then in the 2012 London Olympic Games, but I feel ready to get down to business. I got a few days rest, something I felt I really needed and now I am ready to work with my new teammates. Panathinaikos is the greatest challenge of my entire career. Its history is huge and its goals every year are granted. When you come to such a team you know what to expect, you know that at any given time you must be 100% prepared. Pressure does exist but it is only natural. In any event, Saras (Jasikevicius) has already told be all about the team using the best possible terms for Panathinaikos, Athens , the fans…”
Derwin Kitchen stated: “It was quite a difficult journey but you know what they say: When things start out bad, everything flows as it should after… I can easily state that I am happy to be here. Panathinaikos is a big step in my career because it is a well known team which always aims high. And I felt it was high time for me to make the leap and get out of my safe zone. I can have no other personal goal than to be able to help the team in any way possible. I always want to win and the same thing certainly goes now that I came to Panathinaikos”.
Both players will undergo medical exams tomorrow morning and in the afternoon it is scheduled for them to have reached Karpenisi along with Sofoklis Schortsanitis.
