Top league for the captain

Dimitris Diamantidis is on yet another occasion amongst Euroleague’s best for the 2012-13 season (2012-13 All Euroleague Team). Not that it comes as a surprise since from his very first season in the league the Panathinaikos captain has left his mark vigorously on it.

As the official Euroleague announcement states: “Diamantidis refused to allow a team, which is going through its reconstruction season, to do anything less that challenge the title. And even though after an astonishing series versus Barcelona, Panathinaikos was left out of the Final Four shy a single win, Diamantidis has many things to be proud of, as leader of this remarkable team. Diamantidis was the motor to fuel Panathinaikos, continuing to climb higher and higher on the all time lists”.

Diamantidis since 2004 when signed to Panathinaikos and competing for the first time in Euroleague, has conquered Best Defender title six times (out of 9 times the title has been given), has been named champion three times (2007,2009.2011), has been named MVP Final Four twice (2007, 2011), once the season MVP (2011) and this is the fourth time he has a position on the all Euroleague team.

Dimitris Diamantidis however, is much more than numbers or lists of awards and distinctions. He is the ideal teammate, a true leader, grounded and down to earth, no matter how much he achieves, regardless of all said and written about him… And this is what makes him all the more special and unique…

To fill the list of nominees for the all Euroleague team and for the season MVP are Rudy Fernandez (Real Madrid), Shaun James (Maccabi Tel Aviv), Victor Khryapa (CSKA Moscow), Nenad Krstic (CSKA Moscow), Nikola Mirotic (Real Madrid), Juan Carlos Navarro (Barcelona), Vassilis Spanoulis (Olympiacos), MIlos Teodosic (CSKA Moscow), Ante Tomic (Barcelona).
