Panathinaikos BC announces its agreement with Pat Calathes for the next one year.
Pat was the first of the brothers to arrive in our country, stroke a deal with Maroussi where he played for two years, and then moved on to Colossus Rhodes where he made his best championship performances since he came to Greece.
Standing an impressive 2.08 tall, he runs the court well and can put the ball “down” if need be to control the game, while he can shoot from downtown and provide various different solutions to the team. He began his basketball adventure in the USA, where he played for Lake Howell High School, starting off as a wiry 1.80-meter tall player only to reach a staggering 2.10 in his senior year!
The fact that he began his career as a point guard makes it easy for him to dribble despite the fact that he grew taller in the aftermath of his career launch. He studied at and played for Saint Joseph’s University in Philadelphia. In his freshman year he stayed almost glued to the bench; in his sophomore year he earned some time as a key substitute, but by his junior year he began showing his true assets; at the end of his senior year during the 2007-08 season he had a member of the All Atlantic-10 First Team , with a 17.5-point average, 40% in the 3-point shots (74/185), 255 rebounds, 92 assists, 42 blocks and 42 steals in a total of 34 games. He is one of only 26 players who have graduated from Saint Joseph’s University having scored over 1000 points and 500 rebounds throughout their career with the University team. His Greek passport made it easier for him to open the doors of the Greek championship clubs: Maroussi, followed by Colossus Rhodes with steady improvement, only to be topped by Panathinaikos in 2011 and call to join the Greek National Men’s Team during its preparation stage.
He joined the Israeli League club Maccabi Hafia in 2012, and he was a key player in the team's successful 2012–13 season. He was named to the Israeli League's Best Five Team. He also helped lead the club to win the Israeli League championship, as he was named the MVP of the Israeli League Final.
He signed with the VTB United League club BC Astana for the 2013–14 season and played there for three years.
