Giorgos Kalaitzis retires from professional basketball

A player who has both worn and honored the Panathinaikos jersey, retired today from professional basketball. Girogos Kalaitzis hanged up his jersey today, through a PSAT letter.

Kalaitzis has written his very own history with the clover, team with which he competed for nine whole years. Prior to signing on for the Greens he had competed in Niki Volou (1990-93), Panionios (1993-1997), Stefanel Milano (1997-98). He signed on for Panathinaikos in 1998 and remained all the way down to the end of the 2005-06 season. He picked up his career in Aris Thessaloniki (2006-08), Panellinios (2008-11) and Kolossos Rhodes (2011-13). At the same time he was a basic member of the national youth teams (U-16, U-18, U-19) and then the Men’s national team.

Wearing the Panathinaikos jersey he has conquered 8 Greek Leagues (1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006), three Greek Cups (2003, 2005, 2006) and two European Championships (2000, 2002). He has been crowned World Champion with the U-18 national team in 1995.
