Jonas Maciulis was honored by Lithuania this morning. At the country’s embassy in Athens, in a simple ceremony, the Panathinaikos forward was presented with the nation’s medal for conquering the silver medal at the EuroBasket 2013, hosted in Slovenia.
Maciulis, escorted by his wife, was honored by the Lithuanian ambassador in Greece, Alfonsas Eidintas. The President of Lithuania, Dalia Grybauskaite, conveyed the country’s message, stressing that “the medal is presented to all who worthily represented and honor the country”.
Jonas Maciulis stated shortly after being presented with the medal: “The medal with which I am being honored today is from the President of the country for all we accomplished at the EuroBasket 2013. It is a medal, because we represented our country worthily. It is the second great distinction awarded to Lithuania. It is truly a great honor for me to be wearing this medal right now on my chest. The greatest moment for us in the EuroBasket was when we beat Croatia and reached the final, but also when we saw the silver medal around our necks. It was a great moment for us and our country”.
