Derrick Williams hit a game-winning three-pointer with 7.8 seconds remaining to help Panathinaikos OPAP Athens beat Maccabi Playtika Tel Aviv in a thrilling contest at OAKA Altion on Friday night.
The Greens led almost the entire night, but never with a double-digit lead. However, Maccabi rallied behind Bonzie Colson and Wade Baldwin, as the two teams traded leads four times in the final minute. Eventually, Panathinaikos came out on top, ending its six-game losing streak and improving to 7-12, while Maccabi dropped to a 10-9 record.
Paris Lee paced the hosts with 21 points, while Dwayne Bacon scored 10 of his 19 points in the final five minutes of the contest. Williams finished with 17 points and Georgios Papagiannis added 16. Colson had a monster game for Maccabi with 29 points and 14 rebounds. Baldwin contributed 21 points and Lorenzo Brown scored 11.
