Condolence Announcement

The Panathinaikos AKTOR Basketball Club expresses its deepest sorrow at the passing of Mimis Domazos.

The entire Panathinaikos family mourns the loss of a legendary footballer and, above all, an extraordinary figure in Greek sports history.

Known as “The General” since his playing days at Panathinaikos—a title that will forever resonate—Mimis Domazos was born on January 22, 1942. His football journey began at Amyna Ambelokipon, where his exceptional technical skills quickly drew attention.

At a very young age, he transferred to Panathinaikos, debuting in a friendly match on December 26, 1958. A few months later, his move to the club was officially finalized, and he went on to serve Panathinaikos with unparalleled dedication.

Domazos played for Panathinaikos for nearly two decades (from 1959 to 1978) without interruption. He then spent a season with AEK Athens before returning to Panathinaikos to conclude his illustrious career.

Throughout his remarkable journey in Greek football, he won nine league titles and three Greek Cups with Panathinaikos, as well as one league title with AEK Athens.

On the international stage, Mimis Domazos earned 50 caps for the Greek National Team, making his debut on December 2, 1959.

Undoubtedly, the pinnacle of his career was leading Panathinaikos as captain in the European Cup Final at Wembley against Ajax on June 2, 1971.

The Panathinaikos AKTOR Basketball Club extends its heartfelt condolences to the family and loved ones of Mimis Domazos.

May the ground rest lightly upon him.

Mimis Domazos. The General. Immortal.
