Born on March 26, 1997, in Khartoum, Sudan, Gabriel stands at 2.06 meters and plays as a center.
Gabriel attended the University of Kentucky, where he excelled with the Kentucky Wildcats for two seasons. During his second year, he averaged 6.8 points and 5.4 rebounds in 37 games.
In 2018, he signed his first professional contract with the Sacramento Kings and later played in the G-League with the Stockton Kings.
At the beginning of the 2019-2020 season, Gabriel appeared in 11 NBA games with the Sacramento Kings before being traded to the Portland Trail Blazers in January 2020. He played 19 games with the Trail Blazers.
During the 2020-2021 season, he joined the New Orleans Pelicans, appearing in 21 games and averaging 3.5 points and 2.7 rebounds. The following year, after a stint in the G-League with the Wisconsin Herd, where he averaged 13.8 points, 8.7 rebounds, and 2 blocks in 12 games, he signed with the Brooklyn Nets and played in six games.
On March 1, 2022, Gabriel signed with the Los Angeles Lakers. In 19 games, he averaged 6.7 points and 4.3 rebounds. The following season (2022-2023) with the Lakers marked his best NBA performance, appearing in 68 games and averaging 5.5 points and 4.2 rebounds.
In the 2023-2024 season, Gabriel returned to the Wisconsin Herd before signing with the Memphis Grizzlies in March 2024, where he played in five games, averaging 3.4 points and 5 rebounds.
Overall, Gabriel appeared in 150 NBA regular-season games, averaging 4.4 points and 3.4 rebounds.
Gabriel concluded the 2023-2024 season with Vaqueros de Bayamón in Puerto Rico. In 23 games, he averaged 13 points, 7.4 rebounds, and 1.3 blocks.
In July 2024, Gabriel signed with Maccabi Playtika Tel Aviv. During his time with the team, he averaged 5.8 points, 4.7 rebounds, 1.3 assists, and 1.1 blocks in 15:06 minutes across nine games in the competition.
As a core member of the South Sudan National Team, Gabriel played a pivotal role in the 2023 FIBA World Cup, where the team made its historic debut. He averaged 9.2 points, 6.8 rebounds, and 1 block in five games.
In 2024, Gabriel represented South Sudan once again at the Paris Olympic Games, contributing 5.7 points, 9 rebounds, and 1.3 blocks per game.
